Todays cake is all about glam. An edible shoe( why would anyone want to eat a shoe?) with a very simple but elegant cake. When you want to wow your guests at your 40th birthday party, this cake will do it.
Fondant shoes can be tricky to get right but they look oh so fabulous! The stiletto took a week to make. As you construct the shoes you have to wait for it to dry. The first part is the heal and that takes the longest to dry. This one took 3 days. then I added the sole and let that dry for 24 hours. Once the shoes was fully constructed it took another 2 days to firm up before I could add the silver brooch detail at the back and then the upper was painted in a pale blue lustre to give it that beautiful satin finish.
The cake, which is a dummy cake has been covered in my handmade fondant and then gathered into the middle at the top. I really love the silver brooch and again it takes a couple of days to make. I used my Marvelous Molds brooch mold and once I got the gum paste out of the mold it needed to be completely dry before it got a lick of silver paint.
I think the perfect cake flavour to pair with this cake design would be a red velvet cake. My red velvet cake is light and moist with a distinct buttermilk flavour. It's melt in your mouth texture is so luxurious.
This is the perfect birthday cake for the very stylish lady who has a thing for shoes and I'm pretty sure we all have a women in our lives who has a thing for beautiful shoes. As a friend of mine use to say " when I put on 5kg my pants may get tight but my shoes still fit and that's why I love them so much"
